With painting our living room this is easy to do
Yet when we contemplate doing this with things in our lives
There comes a sudden panic difficult to describe
Being ready for a change is the part that is easy
Like walking carelessly on an afternoon that is breezy
The hard part that follows may cause us to stop
At times only moving forward when the bottom drops
Instead of anticipating the newness with fear
Shall we instead embrace it as it draws near
by changing our perspective and outlook on life
We are able to bypass or diminish much undue strife
Easier said than done I can hear someone's chatter
Yes this may be true, still it's only obsequious banter
the hard places in life can become the greatest of all
So stand up and take action, boldly walking tall
If I can move forward and look forward to each new day
Then I know you can do it, that's what I am trying to say
Even when you doubt just do not stop
And before you know it you will be back on top
Never give up no matter how you feel
Recovery is possible, as you start to heal
It may not look like it did for anyone else
Just focus on you transforming into YOUR best self.
So we often hear the term spring cleaning. Unfortunately for many it actually is more like summer cleaning or constantly cleaning when it comes to our homes in general or closets or even special projects. My Pastor mentioned this briefly Wednesday night during a powerful teaching on strongholds. He shared that as the current season is coming to an end and a new season is fast approaching that some pack up their clothes from the ending season to make room for their clothes for the upcoming season. Simple? No! My mind shifts to spiritual cleaning. Each of us in some way are at the end of one season which propels us into a new season. As my Pastor eluded to, what would/does it look like if/when we leave the old intact and simply keep adding and adding and adding? Think spiritually now. In our every day lives we could easily see the closet being full, overrun by clothes whose presence is no longer necessary. It is not so easy for some to view their spiritual lives that way. This is NOT only true for followers of Christ. For those who may not ascribe to biblical doctrine this question is still relevant and prevalent. The anger, stress, depression and all out chaos and unrest experienced on a daily basis by many stems from a spiritual issue of some sort. The difference is whether you recognize those things as strongholds and tackle them from a spiritual perspective or if you only focus on the accumulated spiritual DUST - complaining, living in a constant state of spiritual squalor unable to realize their is a stench following you everywhere that drives people away but you merely dismiss it as the way people are or sharing your skewed reality based on your past experiences which have unfortunately left you so unknowingly scarred that when genuine people attempt to interact with you in the simplest of manners the residue of your messy spiritual closet prevents them from moving forward with you in a healthy way- thus adding to your constant inner conversation that justifies how people always treat you........ugh. That's a LOT!!!!!!! Whether you can relate to that extreme or not, you can relate to the closet you use most right now. Look at it. Look in it! See the items in it as the many elements in your spirit right now. What doesn't fit anymore? What is inappropriate for the new season in your life? What has been there for years with tags still on it that you know you will never wear? Ask yourself why did I buy (believe) this? Do I need to get rid of it? Do I want to get rid of it? How do I get rid of it after so long? Being totally transparent I have one closet in my room which is full and I have not opened it in many, many months- choosing to dress from two large containers instead! So don't feel alone or overwhelmed. Let us take the time necessary to evaluate our lives. For our closets to be what they were created and designed to be (think spiritually) the first step is recognizing what is there and why. So as our perspectives shift and our outlook begins to change let us anticipate with a smile the newness that is to come! Have a great weekend as you prepare to start your journey towards health and wholeness.........
