A sonata is a long piece of classical music that's usually made up of several parts. A sonata can be played by an orchestra or just one instrument, like a piano. What does this have to do with self-care?
In September, the theme of Self-Care September came to mind. It was the central focus in my life, both personally and professionally. Now as we enter October 2021, for me self-care must encompass my life and being linger than a month.
What self-care has become for me is more of a song as opposed to the previous song and dance it unknowingly was before. It has evolved into a necessary lifelong part of my life, conscious of it daily- made up.of several parts that come together in perfect harmony, flowing so softly and sweetly while strengthening me with each "note".
My Self-Care Sonata is indeed made up of several parts. One of the most important at this stage is using no as a complete sentence. My Mother helped me come to the realization last year when she shared a nugget of parenting wisdom with me. Saying no, even and especially to my adult children was difficult for me until My Mother simply uncovered a truth that helps guide my joyful use of no. If I say no, they will indeed ask someone else! This was a definite chocolate blonde lightbulb moment for me! What has evolved is freedom to choose what I do and don't do! Instead of feeling obligated to others, I must first maintain and nourish my necessary obligations to myself. This is a great way to begin your own Self-Care Sonata! This simple concept has become the "middle c" that led to My Self-Care Sonata and is ever-evolving as am I. Can you hear it? It sounds like PEACE!
